A Kochi Muziris Biennale Collateral show at Artry Gallery Kochi, India. Curated by Meena Vari
Following a residency in Kochi and workshops with students of Srishti school of Art, Design and Technology, Cathy Lane has created an audio visual installation titled Beam.
'Beam is a sonic/ audio/visual installation that reflects the 'hidden' maritime world. Utilizing maritime history, myths, local folklore, oral history, shipping records, architecture, data, sounds of ships, waves, etc. the project is both a narrative and an archive that creates a dynamic experience of the life around the sea. The interactive installation has elements that are controlled in real time by the AIS (Automatic Identification Signal) and uses data that is transmitted from the ships, which are now in and around Kochi harbor.'
