Cheltenham Festivals and the British Council present the FameLab Ireland Final at the Science Gallery, Dublin, with guest speaker Matt Parker:
FameLab, the world’s leading science communication competition, is back! Held in more than 30 countries, the British Council and Cheltenham Festivals have teamed up again to bring FameLab to Ireland in 2018.
Armed only with their wits and a few props, the top newest voices in science, technology, engineering and maths from across Ireland will deliver short 3-minute pieces on bizarre and pertinent science concepts. Expect to hear anything from the physiology of dinosaur’s tails to the workings of your Circadian rhythm or even the science behind pimple popping.
Presentations are judged by an esteemed panel of scientists, media professionals and public figures according to FameLab’s three Cs: content, clarity and charisma. The winner of FameLab Ireland will then go on to represent the nation at the international FameLab final at the Cheltenham Science Festival, UK in June 2018.
And if that wasn’t reason enough to jumpstart your natural curiosity, UK artist Matt Parker will delve into the depths of the forest floor where a number of his award-winning projects resonate as he investigates the sonic and environmental impacts of big data, blockchain and the hidden infrastructures of the internet.
