Louise Marshall will be presenting the methodology of her research at Researching Music: Interviewing, Ethnography, And Oral History, a one day seminar at Senate House.
Louise will discuss how she is working to develop the interview as not simply an exchange of spoken information, but as a 'sonic artefact' that can be scrutinised by the methodologies of critical analysis. This categorisation aims to bring the interview itself – in all its sonicness – into a realm in which its performativity and varieties of communication can be considered.
Researching Music: Interviewing, Ethnography, And Oral History: A seminar that will explore recent thinking about methods for researching music, from a variety of disciplinary perspectives, with a particular focus on interviewing, ethnography, oral history, and the relationship between them. Organized by The Institute of Musical Research, the British Forum for Ethnomusicology, and the UK & Ireland branch of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music.
