Poster - "How How will we do you remember fill a now? space?

Matt Parker’s Fields of Athenry audiovisual installation, on show in the group exhibition Acts of Searching Closely at ASC Gallery this November.

Fields of Athenry:

Sound highlights the complexity, intimacy and emotional texture of the relations between the self and environment. Juxtaposing found footage of football fans chanting the popular Irish song “The Fields of Athenry”, with a series of sonic investigations undertaken at the site of Apple’s new data centre in Athenry, Fields of Athenry is an audiovisual installation piece investigating how the medium of YouTube is a way of connecting what Athenry is, to what it might become, as the small rural town prepares to allow one of the largest data centre complexes in the world to be built nearby.

Acts of Searching Closely Exhibition:

How do you fill a space? How will we remember now?’ These are the research questions posed for responses throughout an exhibition at the Artists Studio Company Gallery from 1 - 11 November 2016.

Located in Walworth, a site of accelerated social and physical transformation, the nine student-curators from Central Saint Martins reject the notion of a singular answer to questions of ‘regeneration’ through either art or dialogue. The group, instead, hopes to use the gallery space as a functioning multidisciplinary ‘research centre’ as a means of investigating these speculative questions to open up a range of discursive possibilities.
