Dr. Fernando Estenssoro, director of the Institute of Advanced Studies of the University of Santiago, Chile, is pleased to invite you to the conference “Playing with Words: Spoken language as materials for composition” by Cathy Lane.
Cathy Lane is a composer, sound artist and professor at University of the Arts London, where she co-directs CRiSAP (Creative Research in Sound Arts Practice) with Angus Carlyle. Their creative and academic research focuses on the spoken word, field recordings and individual and collective memories, from a feminist perspective. Lane developed the project Playing with Words, which includes a book, CD and DVD in which more than 40 composers, artists and poets. Lane has co-edited with Carlyle the volumes In the Field and On Listening in 2013, and published the album The Hebrides Suite, which has also featured in several exhibitions and performances.
Cathy Lane’s visit to Chile is part of project # 1131136 Fondecyt Regular “Samples and loops in contemporary poetry”, directed by Felipe Cussen, researcher and professor at IDEA-USACH. This activity is free and open to the public, will be held on Tuesday, January 5 at 7 pm, in the Auditorium of the Institute for Advanced Study, located in Roman Diaz # 89, Providencia.
