A multitude of art and design projects in collaboration with local and international artists from Srishti Manipal Institute of Art, Design & Technology.
SMI Live celebrates the work from the Srishti Interim, an annual month-long event where students from the Srishti undergraduate program work intensively alongside contemporary artists from around the world. This years artists include CRiSAP PhD researcher Hannah Kemp-Welch who has been leading the project Social Listening that will be exhibited at SMI Live. The Interim is a vibrant, transdisciplinary space that mediates the worlds of arts, design, performances and sciences. Students explore multi-layered world-views, emerging technologies and different cultural syntheses to create, produce and present a diverse range of projects that echo the pulse of the current art world.

What can you learn about Yelahanka through listening? This project borrows protocols for listening from sound art practice, for use as methodologies for socially-engaged arts. ‘Social listening’ is proposed as an essential starting point for work that seeks to initiate social dialogue. During this project, students listened together and separately, comparing experiences and examining their ‘listening positionalities’. Devising group agreements for collaborative working and ethical research practices, students considered how they might use artistic practice to connect to concerns in the neighbourhood. This process has resulted in three proposals for community-based projects.
