Sounds of Hull

Peter Cusack discusses the latest soundscape in his long-standing favourite sounds project, recorded as part of Hull City of Culture 2017.

favouritesounds.org is a sound-mapping site, set up to explore the connections between sounds in the environment and their geography. Since 1998 this project has aimed to discover and celebrate what people value about the soundscapes of the cities, towns and neighbourhoods where they live and work.

In this edition of BBC Radio 3's Late Junction, Fiona Talkington presents a programme of adventurous music, including recordings from Cusack's favourite sounds of Hull, music with a city theme from Laurie Anderson and a 'binaural' recording of a dawn insect chorus recorded in the south Sri Lankan rainforest (produced by Alannah Chance for Reduced Listening).

Late Junction, Thursday 9 February 2017, 11pm
